Daniel V. Masciari - Writer, Director
Daniel V. Masciari is an award-winning filmmaker based in New York, who unearths magic in seemingly mundane moments of the human experience.
The son of an Italian immigrant, Masciari grew up outside of Boston in a neighborhood of new arrivals to America from all over the world. This variety of characters and subtle differences fueled his imagination and sense of humor. Fascinated with film’s unique ability to earnestly and intimately tell stories, at age eleven Masciari started shooting and directing his friends on the small Canon ZR-100 camera his parents gave him. By twenty two, Variety selected Masciari as one of 110 students who “represent the future of film, media and entertainment.” By twenty four, he had already edited his first feature film, which was profiled in Filmmaker Magazine.
Masciari’s love of film, and film editing, runs throughout his spellbinding work. His films are imbued with a level of detail that sneaks up on audiences, blending offbeat comedy and compelling human emotion.
Masciari recently wrote, directed and edited his debut feature film, “Stationed at Home”, a hypnotically charming work just recently completed. The black and white film, which takes place over just one serendipitous night, is inhabited by funny, moving and eclectic characters living in an utterly relatable, otherworldly forgotten city.
Masciari embodies the spirit of 70s and 80s independent cinema, bringing a raw and unfiltered approach to his storytelling. His feature film debut is a personal and unique celebration of creative freedom, resulting in an uplifting and one-of-a-kind cinematic experience.
